Ulysses' Shelter: building writers-in-residence network

organizes literary residences for young writers, translators and editors. The project began at the end of 2018 in three locations - Ljubljana, Larissa and Pomena on the island of Mljet, organized by Sandorf Publishing from Zagreb, in partnership with Slovenian Writers' Society (DSP) from Ljubljana and publishing house Thraka from Larissa. Each resident spends three weeks at each location from December 2018 to October 2019. The network of partners has since extended to include Literary Association Krokodil from Belgrade, Literature Across Frontiers from Wales, Inizjamed from Malta, Culture Reset from the Czech Republic, and Mallorca Film Commission from Spain. The idea of the project is to bring together artists from around the world and expose the creative potential of various European locations. Tovar.hr is the main means of informing about the Ulysses' Shelter project - about the residents, their work, and events within the project (readings, workshops, conferences and social events with residents).

Opening of the International Library of Poetry on Mljet

An important part of the project US3 is the “International Library of Poetry” – a collection of poetry books in all world languages. Together with a provisional library on Mljet, "Mala otočka biblioteka", and with the support of Mljet National Park and Mljet County, as a part of Ulysses' Shelter Literary Residency, the “International Library of Poetry” in Babino Polje on the island of Mljet was officially opened by American author Susan Orlean, the author of "The Library Book", on November 23, 2023.

The call for donations of poetry books in all world languages will be open soon, and everyone will be able to follow the library's progress on https://internationalpoetrylibrary.eu/.

Other guest authors were invited to the event, as well as the local community interested in the work of the International Library as an informal initiative. Sandorf managed to get the necessary software for cataloguing the books we have received so far and will organise a small course on how to use ZAKI software. Further equipping of the library will happen in 2024. Part of the Workshop on cataloguing, e-books and e-readers is arranged to be held in spring 2024 on Mljet.
