Ulysses' Shelter: building writers-in-residence network

organizes literary residences for young writers, translators and editors. The project began at the end of 2018 in three locations - Ljubljana, Larissa and Pomena on the island of Mljet, organized by Sandorf Publishing from Zagreb, in partnership with Slovenian Writers' Society (DSP) from Ljubljana and publishing house Thraka from Larissa. Each resident spends three weeks at each location from December 2018 to October 2019. The network of partners has since extended to include Literary Association Krokodil from Belgrade, Literature Across Frontiers from Wales, Inizjamed from Malta, Culture Reset from the Czech Republic, and Mallorca Film Commission from Spain. The idea of the project is to bring together artists from around the world and expose the creative potential of various European locations. Tovar.hr is the main means of informing about the Ulysses' Shelter project - about the residents, their work, and events within the project (readings, workshops, conferences and social events with residents).

Laura Torres Bauza on Mljet

In the 6th year of the Ulysses' Shelter residency program, Laura Torres Bauza was the first Catalan writer and artist to stay on Mljet. During her stay she visited the Little Island Library and the International Library of Poetry in Babino Polje. On February 4th, Laura Torres Bauza held a workshop of Catalan cuisine at the local municipal building in Babino Polje. The idea of the workshop was to cook some Mallorcan recipes together. The participants cooked "coca de trempó" (a savory cake with tomato, pepper and onions) and "crespells" (a local cookie from Mallorca), the way Laura's grandmother taught her. At the same, it was a dedication to the very name of the village (Babino Polje = Grandmother's Village), and a way to explore more interactive ways of understanding literature and storytelling in everyday contexts.
