My time in Ljubljana, as a young poet and translator, opened a chapter I had not anticipated. Invited for a short-term residency in this charming Slovenian capital, I found myself immersed not only in the city's rich architectural history but also in a dynamic community of artists, thinkers, and creators.
The residency began with an invitation to the Vilenica Festival, a renowned literary event that brings together writers and poets from across Europe and beyond. In every conversation and reading, I saw how, even when words are spoken in different languages, the emotions they convey are universally understood.
What made this experience particularly meaningful were the people I met along the way. From local poets who welcomed me warmly to fellow artists who shared their stories and perspectives, every interaction deepened my understanding of both the world and my craft. These exchanges were more than just networking; they were genuine moments of inspiration, found in the simplest conversations and the collaborative spirit that marked every event.
During my residency, I also focused on a personal project: a collection of translations featuring women poets from diverse cultures. This project gained new momentum in Ljubljana, thanks to the invaluable support and suggestions from the people I met. Fellow poets introduced me to voices I hadn’t yet discovered, and translators offered insights into linguistic nuances I hadn’t considered. Their contributions were instrumental, allowing me to see this project as a mosaic composed of many unique pieces.
As I return home, I take with me not just memories but a strengthened belief in the power of words and the many ways they can connect us. For that, I am genuinely grateful.
